What Do NOC Engineers Do?

Engineers at the Network Operations Center (NOC) are responsible for providing technical assistance for network connection problems and working with network operators and other IT technicians at your company. You are responsible for correcting and preventing data loss with wired and wireless system connection hardware. They also communicate with the help desk and other on-site systems specialists to provide immediate problem resolution.

NOC engineers repair circuit failures and monitor device uptime. Configure and install network devices as needed, and actively participate in upgrade projects to ensure more efficient system support. Another task for NOC engineers is the maintenance of network hardware devices such as routers, range extenders, and switches. They also serve as a backup for the data communication analyst. In general, NOC work engineers report their progress to their department manager or supervisor.

These professionals must have strong interpersonal skills to deal with customer complaints, as they are generally the person handling the issues that other NOC technicians escalate. You should be able to perform various tasks as assigned by your manager. You must work effectively on your own, but you must also function well in a team environment.

This job requires a bachelor's degree in network administration, computer science, systems engineering, or a similar field. Must have work experience with system repairs, technical tasks, and other troubleshooting activities. You must have advanced organizational skills to maintain an accurate inventory of computer parts. In addition, prior knowledge of network and protocol management, as well as additional industry certifications, are often preferred.
